How to correctly take a sample for quality results.
For the sample results to be meaningful, the samples must be representative of the oil in the equipment. The method of taking the sample has a major impact on the quality of the sample.
We have provided instructions here (and in the kits) that explain how to take a proper sample. Following these steps will ensure a quality sample and, therefore, quality results.
Extraction Pump Sample Instructions
- Make sure that the oil is at operating temperature and that the equipment is operating or has been shut down for less than 10 minutes.
- Insert the sample tube down the dip stick hole or into the sampling port. Try to ensure that the sample tube does not touch the bottom of the sump.
- Ideally, the sample should be taken from the same location and using the same method each time.
- Attach the sample bottle to the pump and fill to mark indicated on the sample bottle.
Drain Plug Sample Instructions
- Take sample within 10 minutes of using the equipment.
i.e. shutting off the engine or coming off the track - If this is not possible, drain 1 quart of fluid into a quart or larger container, shake for 1 minute before filling the sample bottle.
- Always use the sample bottle provided in the kit.
- Clean the area around the drain plug to remove possible contamination before taking sample.
- Allow the oil to drain for 5 seconds before beginning to take the drain sample.
- Only fill the sample bottle 3/4 full. DO NOT fill beyond the top of the label on the bottle.
- Place the sample bottle in the plastic bag and seal.
