COLLECT AN OIL SAMPLE

How to correctly take a sample for quality results.

For the sample results to be meaningful, the samples must be representative of the oil in the equipment. The method of taking the sample has a major impact on the quality of the sample.

We have provided instructions here (and in the kits) that explain how to take a proper sample.  Following these steps will ensure a quality sample and, therefore, quality results.

Extraction Pump Sample Instructions
  1. Make sure that the oil is at operating temperature and that the equipment is operating or has been shut down for less than 10 minutes.

  2. Insert the sample tube down the dip stick hole or into the sampling port.  Try to ensure that the sample tube does not touch the bottom of the sump.

  3. Ideally, the sample should be taken from the same location and using the same method each time.

  4. Attach the sample bottle to the pump and fill to mark indicated on the sample bottle.

Drain Plug Sample Instructions
  1. Take sample within 10 minutes of using the equipment.
    i.e. shutting off the engine or coming off the track

  2.  If this is not possible, drain 1 quart of fluid into a quart or larger container, shake for 1 minute before filling the sample bottle.

  3. Always use the sample bottle provided in the kit.

  4. Clean the area around the drain plug to remove possible contamination before taking sample.

  5. Allow the oil to drain for 5 seconds before beginning to take the drain sample.

  6.  Only fill the sample bottle 3/4 full. DO NOT fill beyond the top of the label on the bottle.

  7. Place the sample bottle in the plastic bag and seal.
